Sister's Secret Garden started out being just that - a well-kept secret. The perfect place for parties, weddings, and receptions, the garden was found by Candy Hart and sister Judie Ford.
In 1993 Candy Hart's eldest daughter came home and asked if she could have a wedding here, Candy and Judie worked a wonderful garden wedding at the house and in the yard. But it was when her middle daughter came home at Christmas saying she wanted to be married, New Years Eve that fate took a hand.
After the Second wedding a friend of Hart's daughter asked if she too could be married at their home. "That was our trial run" We had such a good time that Judie and I thought we could go into the wedding business professionally.
The Garden may only see company once or twice a week, but decking it out is a perpetual affair for Hart, her husband, Dennis; daughters, Jackie Childers and Sharon Parrish and Harts grandchildren, truly a family affair.
Sister's Secret Garden also has seen its share of luncheons, charity shows, baby showers, birthday parties and anniversaries. But weddings are the big draw. Hosting such life-altering events involves hundreds of details, from making sure all the tablecloth are sparkling white to scattering petals at every place setting to making sure the unity candle is ready to spark another union. We'll start at 6 in the morning if the wedding is at 6 that night. We only do one wedding a week.
The bride also has to feel relaxed and pampered; she gets a tray of cheese and fruit before and after the ceremony. A member of the staff keeps up with the brides where abouts on the wedding day by walkie -talkie, so they know just when to start the music and flag the photographer.
About 1200 couples have tied the knot here at Sister's Secret Garden sense 1993.
